Red light camera contract prevents Manatee County from easing up on tickets

MANATEE COUNTY, Florida - An unusual clause in its red light camera contract is essentially prohibiting Manatee County from easing up on its controversial enforcement of $158 "rolling right" tickets. The community has developed a reputation among some drivers as being a "trap" that puts profits over safety.

Bradenton Police use iPads to access Riverwalk cameras

Bradenton, Florida-Bradenton Police add a new weapon to their crime fighting arsenal. In April surveillance cameras started going up along the Riverwalk now officers can see what the cameras see while on patrol.

Kimberly Barnes keeps a close eye on her nephews playing in the splash zone along the Riverwalk but she's not the only one watching. Kimberly did not realize there are three cameras around the park watching. "I feel watched, very watched," says Kimberly.

Community celebrates life of Felecia Williams

Bradenton, Florida --The food was grilling, the crowd was growing at the corner of N. 22nd and E. Ida St., and people were there for one reason: 9-year-old Felecia Williams.

"We want to celebrate her full life, short as it was, a life as a life," says Anthony Gilbert of Amped Up Entertainment. Anthony lives and works in the community. He says the little girl known as "Sugar Plum" left many smiles along the way.

Gilbert says, "I remember her up and down the street, 100 times a day, peddling and peddling her bike, always happy."

Manatee Animal Services offers half off adoptions

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County Animal Services is offering a half off adoption special for May 22-24 because they say their shelter is full and pets need to get adopted to make room.

Dogs are $40 and cats are $20 which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, including rabies, health check and microchip. A license fee of $15 is required for Manatee County residents.

Renewed search for woman missing since 2008

Anna Maria Island, Florida -- There are renewed efforts Wednesday to find an Anna Maria Island woman who has been missing since 2008.

Sabine Musil-Buehler was born in Germany and owned a motel on the Gulf Coast island. She was last seen alive Nov. 4, 2008. Investigators are now searching a plot of land off South Bay Boulevard.

'Smart' rifle has jet fighter lock & launch technology

Myakka City, Florida -- Law enforcement may have a new weapon in its arsenal -- a new computer software that creates a smart automatic rifle. It's so accurate the rifle manufacturer, Tracking Point, says a dozen law enforcement agencies nationwide are considering it and the Army has bought six systems to test.

19-year-old describes video of hammerhead shark

Anna Maria Island, Florida -- Coming home from a fishing trip on Anna Maria Island, 19-year-old Aaron Smock and his dad got quite a close surprise.

"We noticed a really big shadow out there!" said Aaron.

It looked like a hammerhead shark chasing a tarpon for dinner within just a few feet of their boat.

"It's an amazing experience. I can't even describe it. He was pushing it around as fast as possible, like a toy!" Aaron said.
