Florida Highway Patrol have their eyes on pedestrians

Bradenton, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol is focusing on pedestrian safety.

Starting March 1, 2013, the Florida Highway Patrol will begin operation P.E.D.S- Pedestrian Education and Developing Safety. 

The operation will take place on U.S. 41 between State Road 70 and Bayshore Gardens Parkway and will last from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Drivers advised to use caution during traffic signal retiming project

Manatee County, Florida -- Manatee County officials are asking local drivers to use extra caution on County roads in coming months as traffic signals at several intersections around the County are adjusted and retimed under the second major implementation of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).

The retiming project begins on Monday, Jan. 14.

Phase I Retiming project was completed in  March along several major arteries in Manatee County.

MCAT service to resume Tuesday

MCAT service to resume Tuesday

 

Manatee County, Florida-- The Manatee County Area Transit normal fixed route and Handy Bus paratransit services are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, August 28. 

The MCAT fixed routes will operate on regular weekday schedules, and previously scheduled Handy Bus trips will be re-confirmed by MCAT staff, says a release from their Emergency Operations Center.

Parrish, Florida -- Manatee County has closed an area in Parrish until further notice.

The closure is on CR 675 (Rutland Road) at Jim Davis Road and Jim Davis Road between CR 675 and Golf Course Road.

JetBlue adds New York LaGuardia service to Sarasota Bradenton Airport

Bradenton, Florida -- JetBlue announced Monday it has doubled its Sarasota Bradenton - New York City service with new daily non-stop flights to New York's LaGuardia Airport.

The airline has been flying non-stop daily service from Sarasota Bradenton to New York's Kennedy Airport and has now added a second non-stop daily flight to another major New York destination, LaGuardia Airport.

The inaurgural flight arrived at SRQ at 5:56 p.m. Monday and departed for New York LaGuardia at 6:41 p.m.

Gas spill causes SR 70 closure

Gas spill causes SR 70 closure

Bradenton, Florida -- A tractor hauling fuel tanks lost part of its load Wednesday morning on SR 70 causing a road closure for about an hour.

Troopers say the Peterbuilt tractor trailer hit a piece of debris while heading west on SR 70 near Post Blvd. causing  its fuel lines to separate from the fuel tanks. The tractor was able to come to a stop on the north shoulder but about 50 gallons of fuel spilled onto the road.

The road was closed for about an hour while the spill was contained.

No one was injured.
