Black and Gold game helps education in Manatee County

Bradenton, Florida -- The first game of the Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training schedule takes place February 22 at the newly renovated McKechnie Field.

The Black and Gold Game gives fans an opportunity to watch baseball and help out a great cause. Tickets are just $8.00 and organizers say proceeds benefit the Manatee Educational Foundation, Wakeland Elementary School and G.D. Rogers Garden Elementary School.

The first of 18 games will last five-and-a-half innings. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. for Spring Training season ticket holders, and at 11 a.m. for everyone else.

Help kick off Pirates 2013 Sping Training season

Bradenton, Florida -- Help the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Bradenton Marauders kick off the 2013 Spring Training season at the 4th annual Pirates Pep Rally!

Players and staff will be at the event to sign autographs. Pirates officials will speak on the main stage about the upcoming season.

Fans of all ages will have plenty to do including family games, face painting, prize giveaways, food and music.

The Pep Rally takes place Saturday, Feb. 16, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton.

Registration now open for 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games

Manatee County, Florida -- Registration has begun for the 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games, a series of athletic competitions held in Manatee and Sarasota counties from Feb. 19 - 24, 2013.

Each year more than 400 athletes ages 50 and over compete in the Gulf Coast Senior Games. It is one of 19 regional qualifying events across Florida which determine participants in the statewide Senior Games which will be held next December in Polk County.

City Fitness hosts Brawn on the Beach, An Amateur Strongman Contest

Anna Maria Island, Florida -- Next Sunday you'll want to head to the beach to see hunks in action! 

Beachhouse Restaurant, along with City Fitness, will host a strongman contest called Brawn on the Beach, An Amateur Strongman Contest -- the first of its kind in the Manatee County area.

Contestants will compete in four categories: a Truck Pull, Farmer's Walk, Log Lift and Atlas Stone Lift for cash prizes. First prize is $500, second is $250 and third is $125.

IMG Junior Golf Tour makes stop for Thanksgiving at Grand Cypress

Bradenton, Florida -- For the second consecutive year, the IMG Junior Golf Tour teed off at Grand Cypress in Orlando for Thanksgiving weekend.

IMG reports the event drew a full field, including players from as far away as Guatemala and Russia. Carl Yuan of Lake Mary cruised to a comfortable victory in the Boys 15-18 Division, shooting 69+70+71=210 (-6). He finished four strokes ahead of Singapore’s Qi Wen Wong (-2).

Middle School Soccer Championships Thursday

Bradenton, Florida -- The Manatee County School District's Middle School Soccer Championships will be held this Thursday, Oct. 25 at Palmetto High School.

The Girls Championship Game will begin at 6 p.m. between Haile Middle School and Nolan Middle. Haile fans and friends will sit in the North bleachers (the Palmetto High home side) and Nolan fans and friends will sit in the South bleachers.

Glazer Family Foundation to host kids from 3 special groups

Tampa, Florida -- The Glazer Family Foundation will host "Gameday for Kids" for three special groups at the Tampa Bay Bucs game Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

During each home game, the Glazer Family Foundation hosts 100 "Gameday for Kids" from nonprofit organizations that promote academic achievement and positive behavior in children. Kids get game tickets, food vouchers and Bucs flags by achieving goals set by participating community agencies.
