Manatee golf club earns "best residential golf community" recognition

Bradenton, Florida -- Waterlefe Golf & River Club has been named "Best Residential Golf Community" for 22013 by the Bradenton Community.

It earned the distinction for its 18-hole luxury golf course along the Manatee River. The collection of signature golf holes designed by course architect Ted McAnlis create a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Tees range in length from 4700 to 6908 yards. The course also includes an aqua range, practice putting green, full-service pro shop, grille room and beverage cart service.

800 students compete in school track meet

Bradenton, Florida -- More than 800 students representing at least 20 schools and more than 1,000 spectators are expected to take part in the Manatee County School District’s Annual Elementary School Track Meet this Saturday, April 20, beginning at 9 a.m. at Bayshore High School.

Always a great event, the Elementary School Track Meet gives young students a chance to showcase their athletic skills in events like the 400-Meter Dash and the 4x100-Meter Relay – always a crowd favorite.

Myakka City, Florida -- Saddle up for the 2nd Annual Levi Dakin Memorial Ranch Rodeo and Bullriding event.

Gates open to the family-friendly event at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30. It's an action packed day with the Rodeo beginning at 2:00 p.m., a bounce house, pony rides, calf scramble, easter egg scramble and ending with bullriding. 

Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids 6-12 and children 5-years-old and younger are free.

The tickets cost $12 in advance and $14 bought the day of the game. Training is at McKechnie Field but parking will be at the Boys & Girls Club lot off 9th Street West.

Local roller derby team faces Orlando rival

Bradenton, Florida - It will be a throw down good time when the Bradentucky Bombers take on the Orlando Area Derby Revolution Sunday, February 24 at Astro Skate & Fun Center.

The Manatee County's flat track women's roller derby team will also be donating part of the raffle proceeds to the Larry King Cardiac Foundation.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., but you can tailgate at 6 p.m. with free beer provided by Little Giant Brewery. The game starts at 7 p.m.

McKechnie Field open after extensive makeover

McKechnie Field open after extensive makeover

Bradenton, Florida -- McKechnie Field is open after the first major renovation of the historic ballpark since 1993. The improvements were unveiled Wednesday.

The centerpiece of the renovations is a 19,000-square-foot boardwalk spanning the outfield. There are also new group areas with enhanced sight lines to the filed, expanded restroom facilities, new concessions and an enlarged Fan Plaza.
