MTI news campus dedication to be held Feb. 14

Bradenton, Florida -- On Thursday, Feb. 14, the public is invited for the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for Manatee Techincal Institute's new main campus.

The new Manatee Tech represents a modern, high-tech training facility to meet the workforce needs of Manatee County. Over 2,000 students a year are expected to be served in the new 210,000 square-foot building, which cost approximately $44 million.

The ceremony will include the recognition of those individuals who contributed to the creation of the first-class institution.

Six candidates will interview for Superintendent position next week

Bradenton, Florida -- The six candidates for Superintendent of Manatee County Schools will undergo a series of interviews this coming Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 11-12 at the School Support Center in Bradenton.

The six candidates, listed in alphabetical order, are: John Carvelli, Diane Greene, Constance Jones, Kathryn LeRoy, Rick Mills and Pamela Stewart.

On Monday, the school district says the six candidates will participate in a round-robin cycle of interviews beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The Southeast High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Joseph Downs, will perform for the patients, families and staff at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg on Monday, Feb. 18.

Student artists auction off art at 6th annual Heart & Soul Gala

Bradenton, Florida -- The artwork of some of Manatee County’s most talented students will be up for bid this Saturday, Jan. 26, when the Manatee Education Foundation hosts the 2013 HEART & SOUL Gala and Live Art Auction beginning at 6 p.m. at the Fete Ballroom at Polo Grill.

Proceeds from the gala and auction benefit programs of the School District of Manatee County through the work of the Manatee Education Foundation.

Judging begins in Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Bradenton, Florida -- Today, Jan. 24, more than 230 Manatee District middle and high school students will be judged on their innovative and informative science fair projects in the Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

The projects are on display during the Manatee County Fair in the Kendrick Auditorium where a team of 50 science professionals will judge the exhibits and interview the students.

Elementary school hosts All Pro Dad Breakfast Friday

Bradenton, Florida -- Ballard Elementary School in Bradenton is taking forthright steps to strengthen the bonds between fathers and their children. Earlier this school year, Ballard hosted a “Donuts for Dads” morning that was attended by almost 100 fathers and their students.

This Friday morning, beginning at 7 a.m. in the cafeteria at Ballard, the school will host its first All Pro Dad Day that will include a before school breakfast for fathers and their students.

Bradenton, Florida - While many Bay area schools have stepped up law enforcement presence at elementary schools, one school district is taking an extra step to help ensure student safety.

The Manatee School District is having sheriff's deputies and police do a thorough security check of all 55 schools and 11 charter schools, looking for any break in security and school districts officials say they are committed to making improvements.
