Restaurant review: Ocean Harvest Market & Grill

Bradenton, Florida (Danielle Palli via Metromix) -- A charter captain, a master chef and a business executive walk into seafood market…No, it’s not the beginning of a joke, but the start of something much bigger. Through a series of fortuitous connections, the team came together to create Ocean Harvest Market and Grill.

“When times got tough for the charter business two years ago, we hatched a plan to make use of a space I had on Manatee Avenue, selling smoked mullet and BBQ,” business manager Mike Guccione told me...

Restaurant review: Anna Maria Oyster Bar

Restaurant review: Anna Maria Oyster Bar

Bradenton, Florida (by Danielle Palli, via Metromix) -- With the exception of beef tacos and the occasional pepperoni pizza, I’m pretty convinced that I could live out the rest of my days eating nothing but seafood: raw oysters, steamed clams, Maine lobster, Alaskan King Crab, yellowfin tuna, escargot, blackened basa, grilled salmon, parmesan-encrusted tilapia..and the list goes on.

Knowing my obsession for bottom feeders and things that swim, I went online to peruse the Anna Maria Oyster Bar menu prior to meeting with friends, lest the group die of starvation while waiting for me to make up my mind.

Live Music in the City of Anna Maria

Live Music in the City of Anna Maria

It takes a while, at 25 mph, to arrive at Anna Maria's southern-most live music venue, but it's worth the drive to Slims Place. Slim's Place features what I would call upscale comfort food.

Try the lobster mac & cheese and juicy, grilled (not fried) mojo chicken wings, and wash it down with beer or wine. Make sure you pick a night when Hammer's & Adams in playing, as live entertainment isn't scheduled regularly.

Just up the road is Feeling Swell which you owe yourself to visit, if for nothing else, to feel swell...sorry, I promise I'll try never to do that again. What I meant to say is, feel like a local.

This little surf motif bar fills up fast and doesn't take long to get hopping with beer, wine, burgers, funnel sticks (yes!) and boiled peanuts (regular or spicy) and live music from island singers Tuesday-Saturday, all year around.
