Bradenton -- Bookmark your calendar: Nov. 15 is the date Rocky Bluff Library moves into its new home, a day patrons have been looking forward to for years.

Long housed inside the cramped quarters of a strip mall off U.S. 301, the Rocky Bluff Library is moving across Ridgewood Boulevard into a newly renovated 10,000-square-foot building that was formerly home to the Roaring 20s pizzeria. An open house for the public is planned at the new building on Nov. 15 from 3 - 6 p.m.

The new building more than doubles the size of the current library which accommodates more than 140,000 patrons each year. The new library will have room for meeting space, a children’s story time area, offices and a coffee bar. In addition it offers 170 parking spaces. Much of the renovation work and improvements were made possible through grant funding obtained by Neighborhood Services Department Director Cheri Coryea and her staff. The Property Management Department under the leadership of Director Charlie Bishop coordinated all of the renovation work.

Commissioners take next step toward approving new boundaries

Commissioners take next step toward approving new boundaries

Manatee County Commissioners today took the next step in redrawing County Commission boundaries by giving informal approval for a set of maps that balance district populations while maintaining as nearly as possible the existing demographic balance.

On a 6-1 vote the Board approved Plan D maps, a set of boundaries which would bring all district populations within 4,500 people of each other. Plan D maps, along with four other drafted versions are available at www.mymanatee.org/redistricting

The Manatee School District is also participating in this process with a goal of having district boundaries consistent with the County Commission. The District will give the public another opportunity to weigh in on the maps at a Nov. 7 Open House at Manatee County School Support Center, 202 Manatee Ave. W. from 5 to 7 p.m.
