Island Library reopens after 8-month renovation

Holmes Beach, Florida -- The Island Library's 8-month renovation project came to a close and the newly renovated library reopened to the public Thursday.

The $238,703 renovation project includes reconfigured book shelves, new ceiling tiles, a new Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) system, new lighting, new carpeting, renovated restrooms, fresh paint indoors and outdoors, new Florida-friendly landscaping, irrigation repairs.

'Fiesta de Salud' Health Fair Saturday

Bradenton, Florida -- On Saturday, Oct. 13, the Manatee County Health Department will host "Fiesta de Salud", a health fair to raise awareness about health issues in the Latino community.

During the fair, attendees will have access to various screenings and activities free of charge that include HIV and STD rapid testing with results available every 20 minutes, pregnancy testing, cholesterol testing and blood pressure and diabetes screenings.

There will also be family-friendly activities including face painting and children's games.

Rock Concert fundraiser for new performing arts center

Bradenton, Florida -- Two local bands will take the stage Saturday night in hopes of raising money for the new Manatee Performing Arts Center.

GoodbyEddie, as well as Lawyers, Guns, & Money are scheduled to play starting at 7 p.m. at the Manatee Players Community Theatre, located at 102 Old Main Street.

The "Players" will relocate out of their current 67-year-old building and into the new facility once it's completed.

Individual tickets to Saturday's show are $25.

Organizers say donations are also welcome.

Parrish, Florida -- Manatee County will host a public workshop to discuss proposed improvements to Fort Hamer Park and boat ramp on Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Williams Elementary School, 3404 Fort Hamer Road in Parrish.

The proposed improvements will enhance Fort Hamer Park and the park area surrounding the rowing facility completed in 2010.

Bradenton, Florida -- Local residents, boaters, fishing enthusiasts and environmental supporters are invited to a third public workshop to discuss proposed renovations to Warner’s Bayou boat launch on Wednesday, July 11.

The workshop will be held at Palma Sola Elementary School cafeteria, 6806 5th Ave NW, Bradenton. The meeting is open to the public and it will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a staff presentation that covers a new proposed plan based on public comments earlier this year.
