Palmetto, Florida -- Join Commissioner Whitmore on Saturday, July 14 to help wash dogs at Manatee County Animal Services.

All of the dogs at the shelter have been in kennels and need a little extra love and care. The shelter says they have a large group to walk the dogs and the commissioner needs help washing them when they get back.

If you are interested in helping, bring shampoo and old towels if you can.

The dog wash will take place at 10 a.m. at 305 25th Street West in Palmetto.

Manatee Animal Services offers two dogs for free

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County Animal Services is looking for a home for two dogs who have been in the shelter's care since late 2011.

The shelter says Cricket and Congo have been in cages for far too long and need a family to share their lives with.

Cricket is a fun-loving medium sized girl who has been at the shelter since December 2011. Since she has been at the shelter for so long, they are offering her to a loving home for free.

Congo is a free spirit in need of a loving home. He will also be offered for free.
