Six candidates will interview for Superintendent position next week

Bradenton, Florida -- The six candidates for Superintendent of Manatee County Schools will undergo a series of interviews this coming Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 11-12 at the School Support Center in Bradenton.

The six candidates, listed in alphabetical order, are: John Carvelli, Diane Greene, Constance Jones, Kathryn LeRoy, Rick Mills and Pamela Stewart.

On Monday, the school district says the six candidates will participate in a round-robin cycle of interviews beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Andy Wollard names February 2013 Officer of the Month

Bradenton, Florida -- The Bradenton Police Department has recognized Officer Andy Wollard as its February 2013 Officer of the Month.

The department says it was Officer Wollard's dedicated work ethic and proactive community involvement in his assigned zone the led to him earning the title this month.

On Jan. 1, Officer Wollard helped identify two of the three suspects wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at a Chevron gas station in the 1800 block of Manatee Avenue East after viewing surveillance video of the incident.

Two killed in Bradenton crash over weekend

Palmetto, Florida -- Two Palmetto people were killed in a single car crash on SR-684 early Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports Chrissie Woods and Jontrease Yarn were riding together in a Mercury Sable east on the road in the left lane at U.S. 41 when Woods lost control of the car and rotated towards the south shoulder. The car then traveled over the curb, onto the south shoulder and slammed it's left side into a concrete pole. The front of the car then hit a tree as it traveled around the pole before coming to a rest up against the utility pole.

John Moore named Manatee Sheriff's Deputy of the Month

Bradenton, Florida -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has announced Deputy John Moore as their first Deputy of the Month of the New Year.

The sheriff's office says on Oct. 24, 2012, Deputy Moore was patrolling in the Panther Ridge area when he saw a vehicle backed into a wooded area with two rubber hoses running from the tailpipe into the back windows and towels sealing the window openings.

Deputy Moore stopped the suicide attempt and removed the man from the car. He was taken to the hospital and reported to be in good condition.

Sheriff's office captain graduates from FBI National Academy

Bradenton, Florida -- Congratulations Captain William "BG" Dixon!

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office announced on Dec. 14, Captain Dixon graduated from the 251st Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  He was among 263 law enforcement officers from around the world who completed the 11-week program which consists of advanced training in investigations, management and fitness.
