Bradenton, Florida -- The Bradenton Police Department has named Officer Brandon Smolarz "Officer of the Month" for June 2013. Cheif Michael Radzilowski says Officer Smolarz's dedicated work ethic and proactive patrolling led to the return of stolen property and an arrest.

Manatee’s C.J. Dupre’ named  Florida Building Official of the Year

Manatee, Florida -- Manatee County Building Official C.J. Dupre’ has been selected among 477 building officials as Florida Building Official of the Year by the Building Officials Association of Florida.

Manatee Building and Development Services Director John Barnott said Dupre’ is a driving reason Manatee’s Building Department has earned a reputation for stellar customer service in recent years. The distinction comes two years after Dupre’ was named Building Official of the Year by the Gulf Coast Chapter.

Bradenton, Florda -- A local chef is being nationally recognized!

Chef Greg Campbell of PIER 22 Restaurant, has been honored as one of the country's top culinary talents in the inaugural edition of "Best Chefs America." 

“I am thrilled to be nominated by my peers and included in Best Chefs America,” states Chef Greg.  “This recognition is truly an honor and gives me yet another reason to be appreciative of my fellow professionals and chosen profession.”

Local runner awarded first ever scholarship

Bradenton, Florida -- A local runner is being awarded a first ever running camp scholarship for her outstanding efforts on the track.

Jessica Jones is a junior at Manatee High School. She runs cross country and track as well as half marathons and other road races. She just finished her third year as a varsity letter winner in both cross country and track. 

When Jessica is not racing, she's volunteering her time helping to put on races and raising money for charities like the Miles for Moffitt race.

President of Boys & Girls Clubs announces retirement

Manatee County, Florida --  For Carl Weeks, 42 is a magic number.

That's how long he's dedicated his life to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, and that's the number that Jackie Robinson wore.

With that baseball metaphor, Weeks today announced his retirement as President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, effective August 31, 2013.

Manatee County History Fair Team receives high honors at competition

Bradenton, Florida - The 2013 Manatee County History Fair Team received several honors at the Florida History Fair in Tallahassee. Twenty-three students were part of 1,100 students from across the state who competed this year.

It was a suspenseful time from May 5-7th, when more than 200 judges evaluated some 631 entries in five categories: historical papers, documentaries, exhibit boards, websites and performances.

Many Manatee County team projects merited excellent and superior ratings and five advanced to the final rounds.
