Australian Sheperds from Manatee County put to death


Manatee County, Florida -- Day two, and protesters return to block the front gate of Manatee County Animal Shelter in a last ditch effort to keep Buck and Bill from being euthanized. But for the dogs' owner, Karen Erskine, the news that the last legal avenue to save them comes in a text from her attorney. The dogs will die at 7 p.m.

Woman loses fight to save her dogs from being euthanized


Bradenton, Florida -- A fifteen month long battle to free two dogs has ended.

A Manatee County judge ruled the Australian Shepherds were dangerous and, by state law, had to be euthanized. They were put down Thursday evening.

"They're the world. They're my heart and soul," said Karen Erskine about her dogs, 8-year-old Buck and 11-year-old Bill. Thursday afternoon with the clock ticking, Erskine still believed they could be saved, but time was not on her side.

Owner to see beloved pets one last time


Two dogs in Manatee County are waiting on death row this morning after an intense legal battle to save their lives.

Karen Erskine has worked to keep her dogs Bill and Buck alive since December 2012 when they were taken from her for biting a 13-year-old boy while he was riding his bike.

Today, she will see them again for one last time about a half an hour before they are euthanized.

Bill and Buck were deemed dangerous and in all likelihood today will be their last day to live.

Manatee County, Florida-- Buck and Bill, two Australian shepherds, are on death row this night. Manatee County is planning on euthanizing both dogs after a judge signed off on the kill order.

The dogs were seized by Manatee County animal services back in December 2012 after biting a 13-year-old boy who was riding on his bike. The county has ordered the dogs destroyed because they are dangerous.

Sure there's plenty of fish, dolphins, and manatees that call the water home. But some local fishermen believe they've also spotted a great white shark.

"He was very large," describes Jimmy Campbell.

Campbell says while he and his father were out fishing on Friday just three miles off the coast of Anna Maria Island, a much larger fish decided to join in on the hunt.

App blocks person behind student's threatening texts

Bradenton, Florida -- Texting is how teenagers often communicate, but Manatee County Sheriff's officials say one student's texts at Southeast High School crossed the line.

Senior Ashley Hartzell says word spread fast of the threatening texts.

"It was pretty scary. I didn't want that to happen to me," says Ashley.

A student told deputies she received the texts during her 6th period class. According to deputies, the text starts with a simple "Hey." When she didn't recognize the number and asked who it was the sender replied, "it's your baby mama."
