Dramatic end to police chase in Manatee | News
Bradenton, Florida -- A police chase ended in a crash with the suspect and one of the pursuing vehicles.
Manatee deputies say they responded to an address Friday morning of an aggravated assault with a firearm. When they arrived, they saw the suspect, 21-year-old Todd Thompson, trying to flee the scene in his vehicle. The Sheriff's Office says one deputy was nearly run over by the fleeing suspect.
A police pursuit was then under way. Minutes into the chase, deputies stopped all traffic at 6700 Lockwood Ridge Road so that stop sticks could be set up.
It was here that Thompson reportedly lost control, hitting another vehicle and causing his car to tumble.
The deputy who was setting up the stop sticks jumped out of the way moments before Thompson's tumbling vehicle came to a rest on top of the deputy's patrol car.
Thompson reportedly crawled out of his car and attempted to run, but the deputy caught him and placed the suspect under arrest.
All injuries during the incident were minor and treated on the scene. Thompson is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, fleeing to elude, and causing a traffic crash.
