It started around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Whitfield Estates neighborhood of Bradenton.

Chris Somers was on her way home from work when she noticed a man outside a house in her neighborhood.

He "had both hands pushing against the door," Somers said.

Eventually, neighbors say the alleged burglar made his way to the backyard.  That's when another neighbor, Lance Holder, 42, confronted the man with an unloaded shotgun.

The man then shot Holder in the shoulder.  Holder was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

After the shooting, deputies say the gunman ran to another house about 1/8 of a mile away.

As deputies arrived at the house, they heard a gunshot.  They called in the SWAT team and evacuated the house and some other houses nearby.

Inside, deputies found the allged gunman dead.  Deputies say it appears he shot himself in the head.

Deputies have not identified him but said they expected to release his name Thursday morning.
