News

Bradenton, Florida -- A woman carjacked while waiting in the drive-thru of a Bradenton McDonald's is sharing her story after a terrifying ordeal Monday morning.

Cheryl Figueroa, a 32-year-old mother of three, was stopping for lunch when a man jumped in her car and ordered her to drive.

"He told me he had a gun and that if I didn't do what he said he would blast me," recalls a still shaken Figueroa.

Manatee Sheriff's deputies say the man and a second suspect had just robbed a Sweetbay Liquor Store across the parking lot from the McDonald's. The two men ran in different directions, one jumping into Figueroa's mini van armed with a gun.

"All I told him is please don't hurt me, I have three kids," said Figueroa.

She says the drive-thru employee at the McDonald's noticed something was wrong and managed to write down the van's license plate number and call 9-1-1 before she was forced to drive away at gunpoint.

"It thought I was going to die. I thought he was going to kill me, rape me...you just don't know."

The man eventually asked to be let out of the van by a nearby school.  Figueroa says, on the way out, he offered her a bottle of stolen liquor.

"I just wanted him out of the car. At that time, I didn't find anything humorous," said Figueroa, who escaped the ordeal unharmed.

She eventually contacted deputies. Investigators say both suspects are still on the run but were possibly captured on surveillance video cameras at both the Sweetbay and McDonald's.

The carjacking suspect is described as a husky black man, just over 6 feet tall, around 200 pounds, last seen wearing a red t-shirt and black jeans.
