Husband confesses to robbing bank after wife turns him in

Bradenton, Florida- Troy Sandifar,45, confesses  to Manatee County Sheriff deputies he robbed First Bank on Manatee Avenue West Tuesday. Sandifar reportedly gave a note to the bank teller asking for 50 and 100 dollar bills. Was his motivation greed or desperation?

"He's a great guy. He'd help anybody," says Afra Sandifar about her husband. She adds, " He meant no harm to no one. He was in front of the cameras at the bank. He needed help all he wants is help."

Two pictures taken from the bank's surveillance camera shows Sandifar in the bank dressed in a long sleeve white colored shirt, khaki colored pants and unlike most bank robbers he does not try to cover his face.

Sandifar's wife Afra Sandifar turned in her husband to deputies Tuesday evening after seeing his picture from the bank's surveillance camera on a TV newscast. They married just 6 months ago. "I didn't want anyone to get hurt or killed," says Afra Sandifar.

The Sandifars have been living in a duplex off Cortez Road in Bradenton for about 5 weeks. Afra Sandifar says they both have been out of work for most of that time. The landlord tells Ten News the Sandifars have not paid any rent and are being evicted.

Sandifar says her husband was fired from his roofing job last month because of his mental illness. "I told the judge he needs help, he's bipolar, he's depressed because he lost his job and did not want me to be homeless," says Afra Sandifar.

Deputies say when they tried arresting Sandifar he attempted to overdose on rock cocaine. Afra Sandifar says her husband has tried suicide several times in the past year. During Sandifar's first appearance in court Tuesday afternoon she had this message of encouragement for her husband. "We will get through this."

Sandifar is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday. His wife says the judge wants to see the letter Sandifar gave the bank teller. Sandifar is being held at the Manatee County Jail without bond for bank robbery.
