Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County Schools released the following news shorts on upcoming events at area schools.

Southeast High Chamber Orchestra to perform at All Children's Hospital

The Southeast High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Joseph Downs, will perform for the patients, families and staff at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg on Monday, Feb. 18. 

The entire orchestra will perform in the open, family friendly lobby, and then the group will break into three quintets to perform on different floors for the patients who are unable to leave their rooms. Chamber Orchestra students practice each Friday after school until 3:30 p.m. 

‘Save A Heart’ Outreach Project has students jumping at Bashaw Elementary

Bashaw Elementary School is sponsoring its “3rd Annual Outreach Project – Save A Heart” next week, Monday, Feb. 11 through Friday, Feb. 15, in support of the Larry King Cardiac Foundation.

Students donate $1 each day to participate in before school activities such as sidewalk chalk, hula hooping and jumping rope. Families who donate $5 or more participate in ALL the activities as well as earn a bracelet and have their name read on the school news and posted on red hearts on the cafeteria bulletin board.

Stem Lab teacher earns scholarship to visit Museum of Science in Boston

Tillman Elementary School STEM Lab Teacher Karen Cobb has received a $3,000 scholarship from Raytheon-EIE (Engineering is Elementary) to visit the Museum of Science in Boston in April. While she is at the Museum of Science, she will work with other educators to develop best practices for teaching elementary engineering. She will also receive some elementary engineering supplies to bring back to Tillman Elementary.
