Manatee defeats Miami Central 44-34, defending No. 1 national ranking

Bradenton, FL - The Manatee Hurricanes, ranked the number one team in the nation, held off the Miami Central Rockets 44-34, keeping their record perfect at 3-0.  

The Rockets began the year as the nation's top team, but lost that position, after a season opening loss to Grayson High School of Georgia.

Leading the way for the Canes was junior running back Trevon Walters, who finished with 227-yards of offense and two touchdowns.

IMG Academy players compete in USA Baseball Tournament of Stars

Bradenton, Florida -- Two IMG baseball players are competing in the 2012 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars this week at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

IMG will have high school football team

Bradenton, Fla. -- Chris Weinke has been a football coach as IMG's director of football.  Now he will be a head coach.

Weinke will lead the new IMG high school football team that will begin play in 2013.

"Through our camps, clinics, combines and individual training, I have spent an incredible two years at IMG Academy working with some of the most talented young football players in the nation" said Chris Weinke. "I have been looking forward to the day we could announce the formation of a competitive team, and that day is finally here."

QB Cord Sandberg committs to Mississippi State

Bradenton, FL-- On the recruiting trail, the big, left-handed quarterback for Bradenton Manatee High, Cord Sandberg, has given a verbal commitment to play at Mississippi State.

Sandberg is coming off a state championship. He's a dual-threat quarterback, who's been compared to Tim Tebow.

Dan Mullen coached Tebow at Florida. Mullen now coaches at Mississippi State.

Manatee D-line fuels spring confidence

Bradenton, Fla. -- Derrick Calloway is a four-star recruit.  He's being offered by dozens of college football programs across the country.

He also anchors arguably the best defensive line in high school football.  Not just in Florida, but in the nation.

"Two years ago, I never knew I'd be here," Calloway said. "It's kind of getting a little bit overwhelming though because everybody's coming in now."
