Manatee Hurricanes upset by St. Thomas Aquinas, 35-18

Ft. Lauderdale, FL - It may be the upset of the state playoffs, as St. Thomas Aquinas showed their strength and determination with a 35-18 victory over previously unbeaten Manatee.

Thoughout the entire season, the Manatee Hurricanes have easily defeated all challengers, including several top teams from around the state.

But Friday night, the Canes had few answers for a St. Thomas Aquinas team that has now beaten Manatee four times in five state semifinall games, dating back to 2005.

USA Today HSS Top 10 Football Poll

As we approach the final week of the season, first round playoff matchups are set, and only one final game, often a rivalry game, remains for most teams.

There was very little movement in the High School Sports top 10 this week, with the exception of Lakeland dropping down and out, and East Lake moving up and in.

Again, the High School Sports Top 10 encompasses gridiron teams from the entire Tampa Bay area, Polk, Pasco, Hernando, Sarasota, Manatee, Pinellas and Hillsborough.

Once again, there can't be any disagreement with our number one team:

Osceola defeats Lakewood Ranch 29-20, advancing to the playoffs

Bradenton, Fl - The Osceola Warriors played a strong second half, defeating the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs 29-20, to advance them to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Osceola added another score on their next possession, with quarterback Andrew Matyk scoring on a 11-yard run.
