ORLANDO, Fla. -- It was a night to remember for Manatee High School as the Hurricanes won their 5th State Title in Orlando on Friday.

For anyone that saw the game, it was evident that this squad was hungry for a championship, especially after losing in the title game to Plant just two years ago. The last time Manatee won a state championship was 19 years ago until shutting out the 1st ranked First Coast Buccaneers, 40-0, at the Citrus Bowl.

In the first quarter, Manatee's Cord Sandberg scored from 12 yards out on a quarterback keeper to put the Canes up 7-0. In the second, Sandberg went deep, connecting with Anthony Lauro on a 44-yard touchdown to put Manatee up 14-0.

Before the half was out, Manatee added a field goal to take a 17-0 lead heading into the locker room.

Coming out of the half, Manatee kept pouring it on, only this time the defense scored as Purvis Goff blocked a First Coast punt and Blake Keller recovered it to put the Hurricanes up 23-0.

Then, later in the 3rd quarter, Lauro once again ran it in from 10 yards out for his second score of the game. Manatee went on to win it by a final of 40-0 as they captured a state championship.
