Vote Southeast High School's John Harder as Best Girl's Basketball Coach

The best girls basketball coach contest is down to 10 finalists. The final round ends March 12th and includes Southeast High School's John Harder. Here are the rest of the finalists and votes they received in the regional round:

Trevon Walters named Player of the Week

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee High School running back Trevon Walters is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night in a 51-13 district win over St. Peterburg, Walters rushed for 283 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Walters' big night helped the Canes run away with the Class 8A-7 District title.

For the season, the senior running back has gone over the 1,000 yards mark, as the Canes remain undefeated at 7-0.

Joe Kinnan eligible for Best Coach in the Country


Bradenton, FL--  Manatee HS head coach Joe Kinnan, is eligible for voting on the best HS football coach in America.

It's the USA TODAY poll to find the best high school football coach in America. Joe Kinnan was the winner in Florida over seven other coaches, including Plant's Robert Weiner and Lakeland's Bill Castle.

"I think it's an honor," Joe Kinnan told 10 News. "I think it's indicative of our program, our assistant coaches, our players, our community, and our school. It was a collaborative effort."

Local coach advances in USA TODAY Best H.S. Football Coach contest

Bradenton, Florida -- Earlier this week, Manatee High School's coach Joe Kinnan became one of the 51 finalists for USA Today's Best High School Football Coach contest.

Kinnan beat out seven other coaches in the state of Florida to advance to this second round.

Manatee Hurricanes remain Unbeaten with 35-14 Victory

In Palmetto Friday the number one ranked Manatee Hurricanes got a scare from the Palmetto Tigers as the two teams exchanged early scores.  But Manatee was able to take the lead 14-7 after QB Joshua Meyer found Kelvin McKnight down the sideline for a 15-yard touchdown.

But Palmetto just refused to quit, as Joshua Hicks took the opening kickoff of the second half back for a touchdown.  But that was the lone highlight of the half for the home team, who lost 35-14.

Manatee Hurricanes devastate Southeast 62-0

In Bradenton two rivals squared off Friday night when the number one ranked Manatee Hurricanes played host to the Southeast Seminoles.  But zero to zero was as close as Southeast would get in this one.  Manatee exploded out of the gate to score 27 first quarter points included several touchdowns from running back Trevon Walters.
