Manatee School District named one of Bay area's healthiest employers

Bradenton, Florida -- The Manatee County School District’s commitment to educate and inspire employees to embrace more active and fit lifestyles has resulted in the Tampa Bay Business Journal naming the district a finalist in its 2011 Healthiest Employers Awards.

Kristi Dickerson, Wellness Program Coordinator, and Lesli Strickland, Employee Benefits Manager for the Manatee County School District will attend a luncheon this Thursday, September 15, 2011, at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa where the finalists for the Healthiest Employers Awards will be recognized and rankings will be announced. The luncheon is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m.

The Manatee District was asked to submit a detailed questionnaire about its wellness programs and an evaluation committee organized by the Business Journal used that information to select finalists for the awards. The district is in a category for organizations with 1,500 or more employees.

Known as HealthVantage, the district’s wellness program offers a variety of services including group exercise and weight management programs, an employee fitness center, preventative screenings and wellness consultations, on-site employee flu shots, wellness education (seminars and special events), tobacco cessations programs, and District-wide fitness and nutrition challenges.
