Runners Club helps elementary students stay fit | Health
Jan Dart of the Physical Education Department of Wakeland Elementary School is proud to have organized a new, fun way for students to develop healthy habits early in life. With childhood obesity rising across the nation, Jan has created the Runners Club so local students can have fun and stay active before the school day begins.
She established a Runners Club at Wakeland and the kids have already accomplished great things. Jan explains, "I have 11 kids who have run 100 miles this year and 2 of them have reached 150 miles. I think that is a great accomplishment and (shows) real dedication for leading a healthier lifestyle."
The Runners Club meets from 7:50-8:20 every morning except Wednesdays. Next week will be the last week for Runners Club for the year, and should allow the kids to stay energized through their final weeks of school before summer vacation!
