Local doctor helps hospital in Dominican Republic

Bradenton, Florida -- It's a trip he'll never forget. A local doctor travels to the Dominican Republic to help an under served area.

Dr. David Zamikoff spent four days at the Dario Contreras Hospital. He and four other doctors were part of a team that brought supplies and knowledge to the area which is in desperate need of help.

The main focus of their work was in the emergency department. Dr. Zamikoff says there are more traumas then doctors available to help. He says one thing that hinders the process are the basic rules of the road. He says people don't follow stopping at a red light or a four way stop and that increases the amount of traumas.

Dr. Zamikoff were able to help see patients from intake through surgery and into recovery. He says it really makes him appreciate how blessed we are here in the United States.
