Coastal Orthopedics is donating thousands of dollars worth of sideline concussion testing tools to schools and youth football and baseball leagues in Bradenton that its doctor says can identify concussions in a matter of minutes.

Bradenton, Florida - If you have questions about the Affordable Care Act, there is a workshop to try to get you some answers.

The Manatee County NAACP will host a workshop on Tuesday, November 18 at 6:45 p.m. at the 13th Avenue Community Center at 922 24th Street East in Bradenton. 

An insurace expert will talk about the Affordable Care Act. Mildred Golden will talk about the law's impact and benefits. Golden is the owner of Molten-Golden Insurance Company and has been trained on the law and will walk you through it.

Bradenton, Florida -- As part of international childhood obesity and nutrition education initiative, Kids in the Kitchen, The Junior League of Manatee County will host the 4th Annual Get Your Fit On event!

Local elementary and middle school children and their families are invited to learn about nutrition and participate in several fitness and sports-related activities. By being part of the event, children will be eligible to win raffle prizes like bikes, scooters, skateboards and much more!

Bradenton, Florida -- On Thursday, October 31 a Sarasota resident is being inducted into the Blood Donation Hall of Fame.

In 1947, Roy Richards began donating blood whenever the bloodmobile would visit his workplace in Wisconsin. Soon after, Roy decided that the bloodmobile did not come around frequently enough so he began to travel to the Milwaukee Donor Center, where he could donate more often. When new technologies revolutionized blood banking, Roy eagerly converted to being a platelet donor and was among the pioneers of automated collection donors.

Fresh fruit and veggie program directs students to healthy food options

Manatee County, Florida -- This school year marks the fifth year that the School District of Manatee County’s Food and Nutrition Services Department will participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The purpose of the program is to increase elementary school children’s consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, to expose elementary school students to new fruits and vegetables and to help elementary schools create healthier school food environments.
