5th Dolphin Dash road race set for today

Anna Maria Island, Florida -- Today's Dolphin Dash and Fun Run races will be the fifth occasion of what is becoming a very popular Anna Maria Island event. The Dolphin Dash refers to a 5K road race that winds through the island starting at 8:00 a.m., and the 1-mile Fun Run starts just one hour later at 9:00.

The races both start and end at Anna Maria Elementary School. Goodie bags and t-shirts will be given to all pre-registered runners, but even runners who sign up this morning will have access to the refreshments, awards, and door prizes given out after each race.

Grammy nominated band leads Manatee County fair lineup

Palmetto, Florida-- The Manatee County fair kicks off Thursday night and will run for the next 11 days.

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Thursday at 1402 14th Ave. W. in Palmetto.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for people 55+, $5 for kids 6-12, while children 5 and under get in free.

Bradenton, FL -- More than 100 Manatee County teachers will receive funds today for special projects inside their classrooms and schools.

The Manatee Education Foundation will distribute more than $48,800 as part of its annual Ca$h for Cla$$room Grants program during a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. at Rogers Garden Elementary School, 515 13th Ave. W., in Bradenton.

The goal of the Ca$h for Cla$$room Grants program is to provide funding for supplies and costs that tax dollars cannot provide.

Downtown Bradenton's first New Year's Eve celebration

Bradenton, FL -- For the first time, the City of Bradenton will host a New Year's Eve celebration on Old Main Street.

The celebration starts at 7 p.m. and will feature a ball drop at midnight and music on two stages. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., the band, Shinola, will perform near Manatee Avenue and rock out until 12:30 a.m. on one of the stages. There will be another act, which hasn't been announced yet, that will perform on Fourth Avenue until 11 p.m.

Face-painting and a bounce house will be available for children early in the evening.

American Idol finalist helps bring hope to Haiti

Bradenton, FL - Hope Outreach International is hosting a Celebration of Hope Christmas Banquet to benefit a medical clinic in Haiti on Saturday, Dec. 11 in Bradenton. The event will feature a performance by Sarasota singer Syesha Mercado, known for being a third place finalist from season seven of American Idol, and will take place at The Renaissance on 9th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
