Sea turtle released on Lido Beach

Sarasota, Florida - Wicker is a little wetter this morning. The green sea turtle swam away in Gulf waters off Lido Beach after a rehab stint at the Mote Marine Laboratory.

Wicker was rescued near the Wicker Inn in Manatee County back in March lending to his given name.

The juvenile sea turtle was weak and had tumors on its skin. But the experts at Mote Marine Laboratory soon had Wicker eating again and gaining strength. The sea turtle also had some minor surgery to remove some tumors.

Green sea turtles are an endangered species and Mote staff members always celebrate when they can return one to the wild.

If you spot a stranded or dead sea turtle, dolphin or whale in Sarasota or Manatee County waters, you can call Mote's Stranding Investigations Program at 941-988-0212. It's a 24-hour response service.
