Sustainable Shindig at Bradenton Riverwalk

Bradenton, Florida --The 4th annual Sustainable Shindig at the Bradenton Riverwalk will be held on May 5, from 11a.m. - 4 p.m.

This family friendly festival raises awareness and provides tools for change by showcasing leading solutions to the ecological and social challenges we face—all in a fun environment with music, food, and various sustainable educational and business booths. The music starts at 11AM showcasing local emerging talent through the support of the Del Couch Music Education Foundation.

This year’s shindig has a new presenting partner: Goodwill Manasota. “As a leader in sustainability, turning donations into good jobs, good homes, and good neighborhoods,” says Bob Rosinsky, President & CEO of Goodwill Manasota. “Goodwill Manasota is proud to help sponsor the Sustainable Shindig.” Rosinsky, further explains that “for 111 years, Goodwill has been an environmental pioneer of the ‘reduce, reuse, repurpose" practice.’"

Sustainable Shindig offers a few new features in 2013. The event is doing double duty as the final day of the four-day conference for Bar Camp Sarasota Manatee’s Spark Growth and will attract Bar Camp’s entrepreneurs, technologists, and creative thinkers. Additionally, the new location offers easy access for people from the Tampa Bay, Bradenton and Sarasota regions. “USGBC is excited to showcase the redeveloped downtown Bradenton Riverwalk at the 4th annual Sustainable Shindig,” says Jenn McAlister of the USGBC, explaining that the Riverwalk’s low impact design and its use of environmentally friendly materials and practices is one of the reasons the public park won first place at the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council last month.

The event will take place at the Riverwalk’s Pavilion area, east of the railroad tracks. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
