Sarasota Slim and Nitro Bozeman to perform at 'Countdown to the Blues'

Bradenton, Florida -- The popular “Countdown to the Blues” concert series continues Sunday, August 19, with a performance by internationally acclaimed blues guitarist Sarasota Slim and seasoned blues harmonica player Nitro Bozeman.

The musicians are billing their concert as “front porch harmonica and guitar duo style blues with both delta and Chicago influences”.

The free concert will be held at Sarasota Guitar Company, 2111 Cortez Road West, Bradenton, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Part concert and part seminar, the Countdown to the Blues performances are being presented in conjunction with the inaugural Bradenton Blues Festival to introduce the community to some of the area’s outstanding musical talent, as well as to different styles of music that fall under the genre referred to as the blues.

Sarasota Slim is the stage name for Gene Hardage, a Florida native who grew up in Sarasota. Hardage’s blues resume is impressive. He toured with Lucky Peterson and earned his "Sarasota Slim" nickname from Rock Bottom, with whom he played in The Jungle Bushmasters and The Cuttaways.

Nitro Bozeman has been playing harmonica in front of audiences for more than 60 years. Known as “Lil Red” in his native Chicago where he was also a boxer, Bozeman will show off his special trick of playing two harps at the same time.

The Countdown to the Blues concerts began in May and have featured Bradenton-based bluesmen Steve Arvey and RJ Howson, as well as east coast-based, finger-style guitarist George Worthmore. Tampa Bay soul singer Betty Fox is scheduled to appear in September and Al Owen and Mikey Silbaugh of the Bradenton-based band Soul Purpose will perform in October.
