Bradenton K-9 officer receives protective ballistic vest

Bradenton, Florida -- The Bradenton Police Department has a new tool in its arsenal made especially for its K-9 officer Blitz.

The Retired Law Enforcement Association of Southwest Florida presented Chief Radzilowski a K-9 Protective Ballistic Vest. Master Patrol Officer Jeanine Pease is the handler for K-9 Blitz. The association has already donated over 26 vests to 10 law enforcement agencies.

Deputy arrested for DUI after crashing into street sign

Bradenton, Florida -- In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 26, an off-duty Manatee County Sheriff's deputy was pulled over in a pickup truck on U.S. 301 in Parrish for suspicion of DUI.

The sheriff's office says the arresting deputy reported 27-year-old Kevin White suffered from bloodshot, watery, glassy eyes and slurred speech when he was pulled over. When asked to conduct a field sobriety test, he refused. He also reportedly refused a breath sample at the jail.

Death sentence for convicted killer Delmer Smith

Bradenton, Florida -- A Manatee County judge upheld a jury's unanimous recommendation and sentenced Delmer Smith to death for the August 2009 murder of Kathleen Briles.

On Aug. 14, before the jury made its recommendation, the judge gave Smith, 41, one last chance to take the stand in his own defense to try to save his life but he refused.

Manatee deputy charged with molesting child

Bradenton, Florida -- A man typically on one side of the law is now on the other. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says one of their own faces criminal charges, and will most likely lose his job, after he allegedly inappropriately touched a child.

Hit and run driver sought in motorcycle crash

Bayshore Gardens, Florida -- Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for the driver of a possible Scion who hit a motorcyclist on U.S. 41 near Bayshore Gardens Parkway Thursday morning.

Troopers say around 8:52 a.m., 55-year-old Mark Holt was riding his motorcycle in the center southbound lane on U.S. 41 when the driver of the purple or red small compact car, that may be a Scion, merged into the center lane and collided with him.

Report: Crime in Bradenton drops 6.3% in 2012

Bradenton, Florida - The City of Bradenton Police Department has released the 2012 Annual Uniform Crime Report. Chief Michael Radzilowski says it shows crime for January 1st through December 31st dropped 6.3% compared to 2011.

Here are the offense totals for reported Part One Crime Offenses, which are murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft:

2004 Part One Offenses Down – 7.4%

2005 Part One Offenses Down – 9.9%

2006 Part One Offenses Down – 3.2%

2007 Part One Offenses Down – 1.4%

Armed home invasion robbery in Bradenton

Bradenton, Florida -- Detectives are looking for three men who robbed a local home in Bradenton. 

On May 4, around 2 in the morning, a trio of masked black males, armed with various weapons, including guns, forced their way into the rear of a home as the victims slept.  

The occupants included two women and a 7-month-old child. 

Once inside, the suspect took valuables from the home, and then fled.
