Bradenton, Florida - A Bradenton man with a yen for pot got fleeced early today while looking for dealer named "Smokey," the sheriff's office said.

Keith Tanksley, 21, was driving friends in his car around 1:30 a.m., looking for an acquaintance named "Smokey" to sell him marijuana, deputies said.

He stopped his car in the area of 59th Avenue East, got out and approached a man standing on the side of the road.

"While attempting to make a deal, the suspect and two other unknown black males began grabbing his necklace, and going through his pockets," the sheriff's office said.

Bradenton, FL-- Roman Salas took a walk Sunday morning he'll likely never forget.


According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, the 41-year-old was walking down 9th Street East, around the 5800 block, at 7:45, when two men confronted him.


Deputies say one held a shotgun to Salas, while the other demanded money.


Salas told investigators he handed over his cell phone and wallet, which contained no cash.

Bradenton, FL -- A Bradenton man has been charged with trying to set mail on fire at his local post office.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, witnesses saw a man later identified as Rafiaele Mazzucco, 51, light a piece of paper on fire Wednesday afternoon, throw it into a mail receptacle and drive off. Postal employees put out the fire before any mail was damaged.

One witness wrote down Mazzucco's license plate number, and deputies used it to track him down.

Deputies say Mazzucco admitted to setting the fire because he thought postal workers had opened his mail. He also questioned whether he had committed an actual crime, since no damage was done.

Mazzucco was charged with arson and two misdemeanors. He was being held on $50,870 bond.

Bradenton, FL -- Manatee County deputies arrested five at the Royal Palm Movie Theater on Christmas night during a near-riot that left one juvenile stunned.

According to the Herald Tribune, deputies responded around 9:50 p.m. to a call that two juveniles had assaulted a man and his wife. While officers were trying to arrest the juveniles a struggled ensued. Destiny McNeil, 20, a relative of one of the teenagers was arrested while trying to intervene. Another teenager that jumped into the chaos, hit a deputy, and was shocked with a stun gun and put under arrest.

During the disturbance the crowd grew to more than 300 hundred people.

Bradenton, Florida - A high school baseball coach in Manatee County is under arrest facing drug trafficking charges following a year-long investigation.

Detectives with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office say 35-year-old Frankie Sanders sold prescription pills to undercover detectives on several occasions before his arrest Monday.

He was taken into custody around 8:30 Monday morning in the parking lot of the Blake Medical Center where detectives say they spotted him during a suspected drug deal, with his three-year-old son in the car.

"He was cooperative. He took us over to the house where we were able to go through the house," said Manatee Sheriff's spokesman Randy Warren.

There detectives say they seized $20,000 in cash along with 60 grams of cocaine, 92 grams of Oxycodone tablets and two grams of Xanex. The street value of drugs seized in estimated at $16,000.

Bradenton, FL - Detectives from the Bradenton Police Department arrested 30-year-old Sean S. Thomas of Bradenton, Florida today, on charges of one count of False Imprisonment and one count of Aggravated Battery Causing Bodily Harm or Disability.  

The investigation began when an adult female acquaintance of his reported to police that she and Thomas were involved in an argument on Dec. 1. While at Thomas' residence, she was struck on the head with his fist. She was tied up while he administered a "Lie Detector Test" so he could determine if she had been sleeping with any other men.

Manatee County, Florida -- The residents at the Royal Palm Terrace Apartments have had their A/C units stolen over the past few days.

The unknown suspects have stolen eight units from this complex in the past five days. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is investigating and say the last theft happened between 5:30-7:30 last night.
