Suspects lead deputies on cross county chase

Hardee County, FL -- Sheriff's investigators say two suspects in a stolen car are under arrest after leading deputies on a chase across two counties.

Manatee Sheriff's deputies say Neil Anderson and Kathy Friel were arrested Thursday after they used stop sticks to disable the car near State Road 64 and Rye Road in Manatee County.

The stolen car was first spotted in Hardee County heading west on 64 near the county line. Hardee County deputies called ahead notifying deputies in Manatee County Anderson was wanted on multiple felony warrants for dealing in stolen property and burglary.

Bradenton, Florida -- A traffic stop in Manatee County on Thursday afternoon, ended much differently than deputies may have expected.

Deputies pulled a car over on 53rd Ave. W. around 12:30 p.m., because the license plates showed up as unregistered.

At that point, deputies say the driver, Edmond Smith, took off running.

BRADENTON, Florida-- Joseph Brice, apparently unhappy with the outcome of his court hearing on Wednesday morning, refused to leave the courtroom and ended up back in jail.

Manatee County deputies say they had to physically remove the 34 year old from the courtroom and take him to a holding cell.

Once there, deputies say Brice calmed down and was transported back to jail.

Student robbed walking home from school

BRADENTON, Florida-- A student was robbed of their phone and gold pendant while walking home from school Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 in the 3500 block of 9th Street East.

The student, who was not named in the Manatee County Sheriff's Office report, told deputies while receiving a text message, the suspect grabbed his phone and ripped the gold off of his neck.

BRADENTON, Florida-- Manatee County deputies say five backflow preventers were stolen from businesses Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Deputies say at least three businesses were victimized along Palmbrush Trail, including AAA, Luxury Nail and Spa, as well as UPS.

Detectives tell us the copper pipes were cut from each.

Manatee sheriff plans holiday weekend DUI crackdown

BRADENTON, FLORIDA-- Manatee County deputies will be keeping an extra close eye out for drunk drivers during the 4th of July weekend.

A DUI saturation patrol is planned starting Friday at 5 p.m. in "areas with a history of high DUI related incidents."

The Sheriff's Office says the average drunk driver gets behind the wheel while over the legal limit 80 times before being caught.

So far this year the MCSO traffic unit has made more than 200 DUI arrests.

Woman victim of "strong arm robbery" over $10

BRADENTON, FLORIDA -- Felicia Deason says it came out of nowhere.

As the 50 year old knelt down to put $10 in her shoe, she told Manatee County deputies a female sneaked up and stole the cash.

It happened early Thursday morning in the 1000 block of 59th Ave. Drive West in Bradenton.

The suspect is described as a white female in her 20's, 5'7", with long dark hair.

Deputies say during the "strong arm robbery" no one was hurt.
