PALMETTO, Florida -- The Palmetto Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened in front of a Citgo gas station on 10th Street West Friday evening.

According to police, 25-year-old Jesse Schwartzman of Ellenton was shot as he drove eastbound on 10th Street West after leaving the gas station. Authorities say a black or dark blue 4-door pickup pulled up next to Schwartzman's vehicle, and one of the occupants shot him.

Police say Schwartzman then drove off the road and crashed into a concrete safety barrier.

The suspect vehicle is possibly a Nissan or Dodge with chrome bumpers and chrome rims. The suspects are described as two black males.

Schwartzman reportedly had a passenger in his car who was uninjured and fled the scene after the shooting and crash. He's described as a black male with a medium build, approximately 5'10", with short hair. He was wearing tan cargo shorts.
