Manatee County, Florida -- Goodwill Manasota recently partnered with Ringling College of Art & Design to host a donation drive during the week students spend time packing for their summer vacations, April 25 through May 6, 2013.

Local runner awarded first ever scholarship

Bradenton, Florida -- A local runner is being awarded a first ever running camp scholarship for her outstanding efforts on the track.

Jessica Jones is a junior at Manatee High School. She runs cross country and track as well as half marathons and other road races. She just finished her third year as a varsity letter winner in both cross country and track. 

When Jessica is not racing, she's volunteering her time helping to put on races and raising money for charities like the Miles for Moffitt race.

Bradenton, Florida -- Summer is a difficult time of year for the Food Bank of Manatee. Food donations decrease considerably at the same time the demand increases. There are two upcoming events when you can help "White Out Hunger" and fill its shelves.

On Thursday, May 30th, guest bartenders Amanda and John Horne, Chris Whittaker and David Scherer will entertain and pour drinks with tips going to the food bank's campaign. The event will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Halfway at Anna Maria Oyster Bar "Landslide" at 6906 14th Street West in Bradenton.

Manatee County, Florida --  For Carl Weeks, 42 is a magic number.

That's how long he's dedicated his life to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, and that's the number that Jackie Robinson wore.

With that baseball metaphor, Weeks today announced his retirement as President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, effective August 31, 2013.

Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts Cooking for Kids

Bradenton, Florida -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast helped change more childrens' lives by hosting Cooking for Kids and crowing some chefs at the same time.

The "Top Chef" culinary extravaganza was held on May 18 at IMG Academy Golf Club. Twenty local chefs showed off their culinary specialties along with cocktails, music, a silent auction and fun!

There were two categories for the winning chefs: Professional and Amateur.
