Volunteers needed to help children learn to read

Bradenton, Fl. - You can help a child learn to read with the United Way of Manatee County and its second year of ReadingPals.

The program is a highly interactive program designed to achieve real outcomes for children.

“With only sixty minutes a week as a ReadingPal volunteer, each of us can help transform the lives of our community’s children through a mentor/teacher relationship that can be life-altering by increasing the probability of success in school which parallels so well with success in life,” says Philip Brown, President of United Way of Manatee County.

'Days of Hope' helps kids start school year with a smile

Bradenton, Fl. - There are 1600 children in Manatee and Sarasota counties who are either homeless or in great need. But this year, more than 1,200 of these kids will start the school year with a smile on their face thanks to Days of Hope.

The event was started when founder Pam Hawn fell on hard times during the recession. While struggling to figure out how she would get back-to-school supplies for her kids, she had a vision other parents were in the same situation.
