Manatee County, Florida -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County was presented the Lighthouse Beam Safety Award by BB&T Insurance on August 26th. 

BB&T Insurance Services established the Lighthouse Beam Safety Award Program to promote the prevention of workplace injuries. Recognition is provided based on overall safety performance and awards are granted for commendable, outstanding, and excellent performance.

Goodwill Manasota receives retail excellence award

Sarasota, Florida -- Goodwill Industries International recently recognized Goodwill Manasota at their 2013 Summer Conference in San Jose, CA with an award in the Market Dominance by Share of Used Goods category. 

The Market Dominance award is given to organizations that have capitalized the highest proportion of the available market of used goods. The figures are calculated by comparing the total donated goods retail (DGR) revenue to the estimated used goods market. Goodwill Manasota is listed as a medium sized agency and won for that particular category.

50 Legs receives donation to help children get prostheses

Bradenton, Florida - Women Owners of FL, Inc is contributing to an organization in our area that has helped 3-year-old Ireland Nugent when her legs were amputated after a lawn mower accident.

Women Owners of FL announced the contribution of $8,000 to 50 Legs, a charity helping to provide prostheses for children who are either under-insured or uninsured.

The money was raised in August through an event at the Blue Door Spa in Bradenton and various contributions through local businesses and individuals.

Manatee Habitat receives money to support build in Ellenton

Bradenton, Florida - Manatee County Habitat for Humanity has more money to support construction for families in need.

Wells Fargo gave a $15,000 grant to Manatee County Habitat for Humanity through the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation "Team Member Volunteer Program" which will provide support for the construction of a Habitat home in the Ellenton Hope Landing neighborhood.

“Wells Fargo is proud to make this contribution and looks forward to working with Manatee Habitat on this project,” says Machelle Maner, Senior Community Development Officer for Wells Fargo.

Manatee County employees kick off volunteer project

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County employees rolled up their sleeves to help make a difference in the lives of people in the community.  The 2013-2014 volunteer project for the United Way of Manatee County is underway.

On Wednesday, employees painted several rooms and mulched the front area of the main Easter seals building. The beautification project represents the huge impact that Manatee County Government helps make in the area by participating with United Way of Manatee County.

Volunteer to be a ReadingPal!

Manatee County, Florida -- The United Way's ReadingPals Program is looking for 200 volunteers to help Manatee District Kindergarten Student. 

The ReadingPals program helps local students by pairing community volunteers with kindergarten students for an hour once a week. Together, the volunteer and the students work on building vocabulary and increasing comprehension, putting the child on the road to academic success.
