Salute To Our Veterans

Lithia, Florida -- Thank our veterans for serving our country and protecting our freedoms at the "Salute to our Veterans" event!  The event is on Saturday, November 9th from 10:00am - 11:00pm at Park Square.  This is a family FREE event.  There will be several speakers who have served, and are still serving in our armed forces.  Students from Bevis, FishHawk Creek, and Stowers Elementary School are invited to participate in an essay writing contest about "What Veterans Day Means to Me."

Bradenton, Florida - It was a big thank you to volunteers who gave 1,850 hours to the city of Bradenton.

Bradenton Police Department honored its Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) at an appreciation breakfast Friday morning. They were recognized for their outstanding service as well as helping the department in several ways, including saving the city about $25,000.

Bradenton, Florida -- On Thursday, October 31 a Sarasota resident is being inducted into the Blood Donation Hall of Fame.

In 1947, Roy Richards began donating blood whenever the bloodmobile would visit his workplace in Wisconsin. Soon after, Roy decided that the bloodmobile did not come around frequently enough so he began to travel to the Milwaukee Donor Center, where he could donate more often. When new technologies revolutionized blood banking, Roy eagerly converted to being a platelet donor and was among the pioneers of automated collection donors.

Volunteers complete 1,500 days of work in 6 hours for Day of Caring

Bradenton, Florida -- Nearly 2,000 volunteers tackled 183 projects across Tampa Bay for United Way Day of Caring.

Volunteers completed 1,500 days of work in just six hours by painting, gardening, refinishing furniture and cleaning windows and walls. The volunteers are from more than 105 local companies signed up this year to help with projects in DeSoto, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota counties.

Lithia, FL -- It's a ride for the kids!  Hundreds of motorcyclsts will ride together to raise money for research for pediatric brain tumors, which is the deadliest types of childhood cancer. 

The leisurely ride, escorted by local and state police, wraps up with a grand finale full of interviews with local childhood brain tumor survivors, and award presentations to top fundraisers.
