Publix donates $30,000 to Manatee County Habitat for Humanity

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County Habitat for Humanity received a huge grant for the construction of a home in Ellenton.

Publix Super Market Chartiies donated $30,000 for a home in the Hope Landing. When completed, the community will be home to 18 Habitat families.

Bradenton, Florida - Manatee County seniors are getting some special gifts thanks to Meals on Wheels PLUS and you.

For more than three decades, Meals on Wheels PLUS has collected wrapped shoeboxes filled with goodies for area seniors. Most are homebound and alone and may not otherwise have a gift to open at all during the holidays.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast receives $1,000 grant

Venice, Florida - Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast gets a big grant to support a one-to-one mentoring program for children facing adversity.

MetLife Foundation awarded Volunteer Ventures $1,000 grant. It was proposed by Brad Ohmes, a MetLife employee who volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast. He's been a volunteer for three years to 14-year-old Jack Ethier.

The Volunteer Ventures program encourages and supports employee involvement at the local level in nonprofit organizations that work to improve the quality of life for everyone.

Local auto group donates 809 pounds of food for Thanksgiving

Bradenton, Fl. - Several people in Bradenton will have a nice meal on Thanksgiving thanks to Gettel Automotive Group.

The locally owned group collected 809 pounds of food for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. It was donated to All Faiths Food Bank. It was the largest drive of the 2013 season. Seven stores in Manatee and Sarasota counties collected food. All the food will be distributed locally.

Volunteers make children's playground dream a reality

Bradenton, Florida -- Thousands of children in Bradenton literally are having their dreams turn into reality thanks to a day of hard work by Foresters, Visible Men Academy and non-profit KaBoom!

More than 200 volunteers built a brand new, 2,520 square-foot play space in less than seven hours from the children's drawings. It includes a Slither Slide, a Solar Climber and swings. The new playground will serve 22,500 children and their families in the community for years to come.
