Business leaders conference scheduled for Saturday

Bradenton, FL -- Hundreds of middle and high school students will gather on Saturday, Feb. 4 for the Future Business Leaders of America conference.

More than 20 middle and high schools will be represented.

The conference will be held at the Bradenton campus of State College of Florida.

It starts at 8:30 a.m. and goes until 2:15 p.m.

Sarasota native and RCA recording artist Schascle “Twinkle” Yochim and Larry Hoppen, founder and voice of the Supergroup Orleans, will join Nick Miller & The Gathering’s set scheduled for 1 p.m. at the new Bradenton store, 2111 Cortez Road West.

$72,000 grant to help hearing impaired

Bradenton, FL -- Bradenton, Sarasota, and Venice are about to become "America's First Hearing-Friendly Cities," according to a press release from the Hearing Loss Association of Sarasota.

The organization was just approved for a $72,000 grant that will provide hearing loop systems for 10 performing arts halls in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

The hearing loop sends a clear sound from the stage's microphone directly into the hearing aids of audience members.

Bradenton, FL. – The Manatee CEO Roundtable will meet this coming Friday, November 4, 2011, at 8 a.m. in Room 203 of the Manatee County School District’s School Support Center. 

The Roundtable meets quarterly and is chaired by Manatee School District Superintendent Dr. Tim McGonegal.

The School Support Center is located at 215 Manatee Ave. W. in Bradenton.

Public invited to Oct. 25 Wares Creek Town Hall meeting

Bradenton -- The public is invited to an informational Town Hall meeting next week to discuss Phase I of the upcoming Wares Creek dredge project.  

The Town Hall will be Tues., Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in the Ballard Elementary School auditorium, 912 18th St. W., Bradenton.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the project contractor and Manatee County Government staff will discuss their role in the flood control project. A question and answer period with the audience will follow the presentations.

Air Force veteran appointed newest MCAT Manager

Air Force veteran appointed newest MCAT Manager

Manatee County -- Carl Hunsinger, a 31-year Air Force veteran, has been hired as the next manager for Manatee County Area Transit.

Hunsinger retired from active duty in 2008 as the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing.  His last active duty assignment, (2007-2008) was the senior enlisted advisor for nearly 30,000 enlisted Air Force troops in Kuwait and southern Iraq.

He was awarded two bronze stars during his military career, one of which was for outstanding performance in ground combat operations, 2004-2005. Superiors credited Hunsinger’s leadership “for the safe passage of 505 combat convoy runs, which moved more than 957,000 freight tons of cargo and 800 passengers over 2.9 million miles throughout northern Iraq” according to Stars and Stripes, the official newspaper of the U.S. Armed Forces.
