Man robs miniature golf course

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County deputies are searching for a man who robbed a miniature golf course Tuesday night.

Deputies say around 10:16 p.m., the man approached a clerk who was sitting by the picnic table at Smuggler's Cove Adventure Golf on Cortez Road, forced her back into the office and had her empty the cash drawer. He then fled north through the parking lot. K-9 units responded and but lost the track behind a Chinese buffet.

He is described as a white male, 5'10" and 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red bandanna, gray shorts and shirt.

Permitting fees to drop across the board Monday

Manatee County, Florida -- With building activity up and internal efficiencies on the rise, the cost of doing business with Manatee County is about to go down. Manatee County Commissioners Tuesday unanimously lowered county permitting fees 6 percent.

The lower fees will go into effect Oct. 1.

The lower fees were originally presented in the County Administrator's proposed budget in May and are the result of increased efficiencies in the Building and Development Services Department and a rebounding construction industry throughout Manatee.

Public meeting for new grocery store scheduled

Bradenton, Florida -- A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 19 to discuss a new grocery store coming to Manatee County.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October on the store at the site of the old 13th Avenue Community Center, located at 13th Ave. W. and US 301.

The idea of the meeting is to get the public's thoughts on how to incorporate some of the area's history into the grocery store.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the 13th Avenue Dream Center, located at 922 24th St. East.
