New Bradenton Riverwalk to host two big events

Bradenton, Florida -- As Bradenton’s $6.2 million Riverwalk project nears its grand opening and official ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m., Realize Bradenton is gearing up for two large festivals – ArtSlam and the inaugural Bradenton Blues Festival.

Bradenton, Florida -- The inaugural Bradenton Blues Festival, slated for Dec. 1, 2012, will feature some of the top blues acts in the country, says Johnette Isham, executive director of Realize Bradenton, the festival's organizer.

Bradenton, Fla. -- Freedom Elementary School will recognize Black History Month with a special assembly on Feb. 21.

Clyde Butcher photographs at Longboat Key Center for the Arts

Longboat Key, Florida -- His black and white photographs of Florida's natural beauty are known around the world and now you can get a close look at some of Clyde Butcher's work at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts.

The state of Florida has honored Butcher with the Artist Hall of Fame Award. It's the highest award that can be given a private citizen.

The exhibition runs through Feb. 24 and there's a private members-only reception with the artist on Friday, Feb. 10.

Arts & Crafts Festival scheduled for Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island -- An Arts & Crafts Festival is scheduled for Feb. 11-12 at Holmes Beach City Hall.

The event will also feature music and food. Admission and parking are free.

On Saturday, it will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday's hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will benefit the North American Butterfly Association.

Volunteers needed for history fair

Volunteers needed for history fair

Bradenton, FL -- Manatee County's annual History Fair is scheduled for February, but organizers still need volunteers for the event.

Volunteers will judge students, grades 6-12, on their exhibits and performances. To check out last year's submissions, click here.

Judging days are Feb. 11 or 24, while training is scheduled for Jan. 25 or 28.
