Bradenton, Florida -- The artwork of some of Manatee County’s most talented students will be up for bid this Saturday, Jan. 26, when the Manatee Education Foundation hosts the 2013 HEART & SOUL Gala and Live Art Auction beginning at 6 p.m. at the Fete Ballroom at Polo Grill.

Proceeds from the gala and auction benefit programs of the School District of Manatee County through the work of the Manatee Education Foundation.

Students from Manatee County’s public high schools submitted a total of 175 works of art for this year’s gala, and a jury of professional artists reviewed the submissions and selected the Top 25 which will be auctioned off on Saturday.

Students will be recognized when their piece of art is auctioned and those students will receive scholarships ranging from $150 to $1,500 in addition to other gifts.

The Ringling College of Art & Design Best of Show winners are for Two Dimensional Fine Art, Jacqueline Clark, Manatee High School; Three Dimensional Fine Art, Kelseigh Prosser, Bayshore High School; and Digital/Photography, Mariah Robertson, Lakewood Ranch High School.

This year’s gala is the 6th annual and more than 240 guests are expected. Summer Smith of Bay News 9 will act as the emcee and Dr. Larry Thompson, President of Ringling College of Art & Design, will act as the auctioneer. A lengthy list of local dignitaries will be on hand, including Manatee County Commissioners Betsy Benac, Carol Whitmore, John Chappie and Vanessa Baugh and Manatee Education Foundation Chair Gary Huggins.
