Gov. Scott to press Obama over flood insurance

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott is planning to use a scheduled meeting with President Barack Obama to urge him to halt flood insurance hikes.

The nation's governors are scheduled to meet with Obama on Monday.

The Scott administration says the Republican governor will personally ask Obama to block flood insurance hikes required under a new law intended to end federal subsidies.

Wild hogs pose problems in Manatee County

BRADENTON, Florida (AP) - Wild hogs are posing a problem for homeowners in Manatee County.

The Bradenton Herald reports that property owners in  certain neighborhoods near the Braden River say the animals are  plowing through front lawns, leaving turf completely overturned in a sometimes desperate attempt to find food.

Wildlife removal experts say suburban growth patterns are pushing the hogs into new territory.

Deputies: Deadly shooting may have been self-defense

Bradenton, Florida -- A man was shot to death after a fight broke out inside a Manatee County home, deputies say.

The Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Kerson Edmond went to the residence on 30th Lane East in Bradenton early Sunday morning, and got into an argument with one of the residents, 33-year-old Olivia Sauceda.

Witnesses told investigators that the argument became physical and Edmonds, who was armed with a handgun, began to beat Sauceda.

That's when another resident, 34-year-old Ryan Harmon, pulled out a gun and shot Edmond.

Edmond died at the scene.

15-year-old shot and killed on Bradenton street

Bradenton, Florida -- A 15-year-old boy was killed after he was shot on a Bradenton street Thursday evening.

Police say they received a call of gunshots in the 2500 block of 13th Avenue East around 8:55 p.m. When they arrived, they found Dakota Smith lying the roadway. He died at the scene.

Smith's neighbor Charles Price says witnesses told him they saw two men chasing Dakota and as he ran home and they shot him.

"He was walking through the park they were chasing him. He jumped over the fence they shot him," Price says.

Bucs unveil new logo

Tampa, Florida-- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers unveiled an enhanced logo and new helmet to their fans Thursday night.

After former Bucs defensive lineman and NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp announced the news on Twitter this week, he and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy revealed the new look on the NFL Network. 

Man critical after trapped under dump truck in crash

Lithia, Florida -- A 27-year-old man is lucky to be alive after a dump truck fell on top of his vehicle trapping him inside Thursday morning.

Justin Richard says his friend Adam Souders was on his way to work driving down County Road 39 around 9:30 a.m.

"As soon as I got the call, I got sick," says Richard.

Souders never made it. He was in this white pickup truck when deputies say a dump truck failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of Hwy 672 and County Road 39 and crashed into him.
