'Drug Drop' program gets drugs off streets

'Drug Drop' program gets drugs off streets

Bradenton, Florida -- Billed as "a prescription for a safe community and a clean environment,' a new initiative has the Manatee County Sheriff's Office prioritizing getting prescription drugs off the streets in 2011.

Prescription drug abuse and misuse is a growing problem in our nation and unfortunately Manatee County is no exception to this alarming trend. In an effort to combat the problem, a new no-questions-asked, citizen medication collection and disposal program is being implemented.

In the Operations Center of the Sheriff's Office, located at 600 301 Boulevard West, #202, citizens are encouraged to drop off unused, unwanted, or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications and leave them in safe hands for proper disposal.
