Quick work earns investigator Officer of the Month for December

Bradenton, Fl. - An investigator's quick work earned him December's Officer of the Month.

Investigator John Morningstar was the primary officer assigned to investigate an Aggravated Battery complaint on November 5 near the Bradenton Riverwalk.The complaint was sent anonomously to the Bradenton Police Department after one of the suspects posted a recording of the violent beating on a social media website.

Feral cats upset residents in Manatee senior community

BRADENTON, Florida (AP) - A colony of feral cats is causing a spat at a mobile home community for senior citizens.

The Bradenton Herald reports some residents of Trailer Estates in Manatee County are angry because they say the animals have become a nuisance, especially the deposits of feline feces around the community.

Neighbors said they didn't know exactly how many cats were in the colony, estimating anywhere from 10 to 50.

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County Habitat for Humanity received a huge grant for the construction of a home in Ellenton.

Publix Super Market Chartiies donated $30,000 for a home in the Hope Landing. When completed, the community will be home to 18 Habitat families.

Man arrested 3 times for impersonating an officer

Ellenton, Florida -- A game of pretend puts a Palmetto man behind bars. Police say he wants to enforce the law while breaking it.

It all began in September at the Ellenton Premium Outlet Mall. According to two undercover officers, Jonathan Stevens turned on flashing blue lights on his Chevrolet Tahoe, pulled over a woman at the mall and identifies himself as an officer. The undercover detectives who observed this then arrested Stevens.

1 stabbed in argument over $10, shirt

Bradenton, Florida -- One man is in critical condition after authorities say he was stabbed during an argument over a shirt and ten dollars.

During the argument, 42-year-old Robert Wesley got into a fist fight with 29-year-old Antonio Williams at Williams' home on 6th St. Ct. East. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says Williams produced a knife from his pants pocket and stabbed Wesley twice in the chest.

Wesley reportedly fled, jumped into a car, and drove to a sheriff's district station, where he asked for help from deputies outside.

The first Bay area babies born in 2014

Tampa, Florida -- While many may have spent New Years Eve with fireworks, there was plenty of celebrating taking place hospitals around the Tampa Bay area. 

For Brianna Fergerson, the party took place at Manatee Memorial Hospital. With the tiniest feet and the smallest little hands, Amelia Fergerson decided to make a big entrance into the world on New Years Day.

"She came fast and sudden," says Brianna Fergerson, Amelia's mom.
