Police: Teen accused of 5 armed robberies

PALMETTO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old committed five armed robberies in less than five hours.

The teen was arrested Friday morning after a crime spree on Wednesday in Palmetto.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports a man was working on a car when someone pulled a gun on him and demanded money. He fled without taking anything. The next robbery attempt happened with similar results.

Manatee commissioner reacts to animal rescue

Bradenton, Florida - A Manatee County Commissioner is reacting to the raid on a troubled animal sanctuary.

"It was horrific conditions and I'm so glad that this all came about," said Commissioner Carol Whitmore.

Whitmore is also the liaison to animal services and helped turned the facility into a no-kill shelter.

Manatee animal sanctuary investigation continues

Manatee County, Florida -- A multi-agency raid on an animal rescue center in East Manatee County found hundreds of animals living in poor conditions, according to Manatee sheriff's deputies.

Behind the gate at Napier Horse and Animal Sanctuary off State Road 64, deputies found more than 300 animals, mostly dogs such as Dachshunds and Chihuahuas. Deputies also found cats in cages, nine emaciated horses, goats, geese, pigs, and chickens.

Bradenton man recalls fatal SUV accident

Bradenton, Florida -- Sitting outside his home, enjoying the unseasonably warm February temperatures, 89-year-old Fred Eringa says what happened to him at church on Sunday morning was nothing short of a shock.

"I didn't see anything happening. It was wild! It was like being blown up from a tornado!" he says.

Vigil for Bradenton church goers run over by SUV

Bradenton, Florida -- Just hours after troopers say a car driven by a 79-year-old woman ran over a group of church goers, killing three of them, hundreds of people in the Sugar Creek community in Bradenton showed up at a vigil to remember those lives that were lost.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Sugar Creek Country Club, which is located off 26th Avenue East, and 27th Street East.

3 killed in Bradenton clubhouse accident

BRADENTON, Florida (AP) - A police report says that a car accident that killed three pedestrians in Bradenton doesn't appear to be alcohol related.

The Florida Highway Patrol report says the driver of the car was 79-year-old Doreen Landstra of Palmetto, Fla.

The FHP says Landstra backed her car in a parking lot at the Sugar Creek Country Club, located inside a mobile home park where church services were taking place.
